Did Would-Be Presidential Candidate Make A Beto O’Rourke FAILURE?

It never ceases to amaze me how those on the political left, where virtually all hardcore supporters of gun control live, keep thinking that pushing a failed political position will, somehow, get them results that it never has in the past.

Those policies never get them elected on the national level (it can be argued that people didn’t vote for Joe Biden as much as they voted against Trump), and it’s like they’ve never heard the definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

California Governor Gavin Newsom (who got elected by the cities in California and not by anyone outside of urban areas) hasn’t seemed to have gotten that message. So, of course, Newom is continuing his pattern of pushing failed anti-2A policies.

Now, though, while it looks like he is gearing up to run for President in the 2024 election, you have to ask if Newsom just has his Beto O’Rourke failure moment.

You’ll remember that O’Rourke famously said “Hell, Yes, We’re Going To Take Your AR-15, Your AK-47.” (You can read about that here.) After that statement (which anti–2A zealots cheered), his Presidential campaign tanked. Dave Workman tells us how Newsom just did something just as stupid. Workman writes,

Liberal Democrat California Gov. Gavin Newsom is proposing a 28th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution “to enshrine fundamental, broadly supported gun safety measures into law.”

What is in Newsom’s proposed Constitutional amendment? Again, from Workman:

Here’s what his proposed amendment would include, according to his website:

– Raising the federal minimum age to purchase a firearm from 18 to 21;

– Mandating universal background checks to prevent truly dangerous people from purchasing a gun that could be used in a crime;

– Instituting a reasonable waiting period for all gun purchases; and

– Barring civilian purchase of assault weapons that serve no other purpose than to kill as many people as possible in a short amount of time – weapons of war our nation’s founders never foresaw.

Of course, Newsom says that most gun owners support his proposed legislation (a verifiably false statement) and that it won’t affect the Second Amendment which he says that he’s upholding with his proposed gun control legislation (a blatant lie).

This kind of nonsense talk tanked Beto O’Rourke’s Presidential campaign, and while Joe Biden cozied up to O’Rourke’s gun position during the campaign (after O’Rourke dropped out), you’ll notice that he also tried to talk just as much about how much he supports the Second Amendment in order to fool those not paying attention. Biden’s advisors knew that running on strict gun control on a national level is a failing proposition.

It looks like Newsom didn’t get the clue, though, and we can hope that this will kill his chances of becoming President in this lifetime. Certainly, our country will be better off without him being in the running.
