One of the great things about being involved in the firearms world is the new developments in the industry. Sometimes those are completely new ideas being applied to firearms. Other times, it is a return to, or a modification of, an already proven idea.
(Now, before anyone tries to argue that “old” is, by definition, worth leaving in the past, I would argue that some things are worth keeping around and bringing back into style. Like civility. An armed society is a polite society. But I digress…)
One of the newer ideas out there is a rimless pistol cartridge developed a few years ago by Federal Premium as an alternative to 9mm and .380 ammunition that they call the 30 Super Carry which they say rivals 9mm in ballistic performance while, some say, is more comfortable to shoot.
Maybe it’s the comfort factor that Hi-Point was thinking of when they developed a carbine in 30 Super Carry, but, whatever the reason, that’s exactly what they did. The Shooting Times Staff gives us details of this new firearm:
The Hi-Point 3095TS is the industry’s first rifle to accommodate the 30 Super Carry cartridge. Available in 16.5-inch barrel length, this all-new model boasts a semi-auto action with a 10-shot capacity. The carbine features a skeletonized polymer stock and pistol grip with a ribbed polymer forend for lightweight and durable performance. The carbine comes with a front post sight and a peep rear sight that is fully adjustable for windage and elevation. A Picatinny rail atop the receiver and a rail below the handguard allows shooters to accommodate their preferred optics and accessories.
Offered in black finish with a 1/2×28 threaded barrel and manual safety, the Model 3095TS 30 Super Carry has an MSRP of $359.
You can see this firearm in action in the video below.
Yes, I do think that is this guy’s 80 year old mother shooting the carbine, and she seems no worse off after doing so. So, the 30 Super Carry may be an alternative choice for someone who, as this guy mentioned, is a little more sensitive to felt recoil.
And having said that, if you’re already a fan of 30 Super Carry, or are considering checking it out, the Hi-Point 3095TS may be carbine may be a firearm to consider for your next purchase.
