How Do Gun Control Efforts REALLY Affect The Gun Industry?

One of the most fascinating things to me is how anti-2A zealots think that their pet policies are going to play out in the real world.

Now, don’t get me wrong. Their policies are complete garbage, and I’ve never seen a gun control scheme that hasn’t made things worse. But anti-gunners always think that their ideas will make things better.

So, maybe my fascination is really a fascination with how deluded those people are.

Take, for example, how anti-2A people think that gun control will magically decrease the demand in the market for guns and accessories. But is that really the case?

Michael Clements decided to find out. Clements writes,

Representatives of businesses related to the firearms industry say that government attempts to put the brakes on firearms commerce could be having the opposite effect. At least one of them said the reason is that people will always protect themselves.

Even with the June 2022 implementation of the Biden Administration’s Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (BSCA), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives zero-tolerance policies for federal firearms license holders, and increasingly strict state gun laws, there are strong indications that the firearms industry is growing. The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) recently released its Firearm and Ammunition Industry Economic Report for 2023.

According to the annual report, the industry’s economic impact grew by 322 percent from $19.1 billion in 2008 to $80.7 billion in 2022.

Business representatives gathered in Las Vegas, Nevada, Jan. 23-26 for NSSF’s annual Shooting, Hunting, Outdoors Trade (SHOT) Show confirmed the report for the most part.

A 322% increase in demand is a pretty clear indication that the firearms industry in the U.S. is growing, even after adjusting for inflation. And that’s after all of the pushes to ban guns under eight years of Obama and another three years (at the time of this writing) under Biden.

So, it seems pretty clear that pushes for gun control actually help the firearms industry’s sales, and those increased sales are a good thing.

I could still do without the stupid pushes for gun control, though.
